They seem to have an ongoing tradition at church camps. At night in the big all campus meeting, first, people who wish to be save are called down to the altar, next, people wanting to dedicate themselves to missions work are called up. Before reading chapter 8 of Don’t Waste Your Life I would have said that this was fine, but now I’m not so sure.
Being a full time missionary means that you are always spreading the Word of God, serving Christ daily, and always doing your best to bring glory to God and that, to me, sounds exactly like what all Christians are called to do. So I guess the only real difference between a missionary and your average, everyday Christian is whether or not they are paid to do these things.
Unfortunately I don’t think that many Christians share this belief. Many believe that just pastors and foreign missionaries are to be continually spreading the gospel, when in truth all Christians are to be doing this.
As it says in 1 Peter 2:9, we are a nation of priests which means that each and every one of us has the ability, and the job of spreading the Bible. You can spread the Bible anywhere. At church, at school, at work, anywhere and everywhere needs to here the good news of Jesus Christ and Him crucified. God has called all Christians to constantly be spreading the word of the Lord.
