Slow Dancing in a Burning Room
Darkness, death, unhapiness, divorce. These thoughts aren't typically what you think about at a wedding. Why a wedding? Well, what do you think about when you think of an expression of love? A white dress, a kiss, a ring, flowers? When two people get married the preacher says "to love and to cherish until death bid you part.''
The preacher isn't talking about the death of a feeling but a physical death. This song is talking about the death of a feeling. And sadly it's true to what most people believe. Feelings fade. It's a sad fact of life. We don't like that they fade, but they do.
Love is a choice. A hard one. Infatuation is not a choice, it is a feeling. Often times we mix those to up and then there are problems.
We in America are told that love is a feeling, that love is satisfaction in a physical relationship. That's is not what the Bible says. GOD is love. God is perfect, kind, patient, forgiving, and eternal. So if God is all of these things and God is love, love must be all of these things.
This song made me very sad. It's talking about a realtionship falling apart, it's talking about the world's version of love.
This song can be a good or bad song. If you listen to it with the ears of the world all you will hear is that love fails. It goes away, it disapears. But if you try to listen to it the way God does you get a "in your face" kind of message. True love, God's love, doesn't fail. When we listen to this song through the ears of God we get a wonderful reminder. The love we have on earth isn't perfect. And God's love isn't the kind we have on earth. We don't have to worry, or suck up, because God will always love us, because God is love.
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.
1 Corinthians 13:4-8a
